With the Windows 7 operating system you can take multiple pictures and use them as your screensaver; the operating system will switch from one image to another. A nice change from the norm would be to get all your pictures at once on your screen. You can do that with the Animosaix application. It will take your pictures and turn them into a mosaic. The mosaic becomes your new desktop wallpaper – all your images become part of one cool-looking wallpaper.

The Animosaix installation file is only 1.2MB in size. Run said file to install the application on a PC powered by Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7. Please note that during the installation process you will be asked to make Babylon Search your homepage, install Babylon Toolbar, and make Babylon the default search. You can decline if you don’t want anything to do with Babylon. You should also note that you will be asked to install additional components that make Animosaix perform better.

The only Animosaix interface we can talk about is the Settings Configuration window that you can access by double clicking the system tray icon, or by right clicking said icon and selecting Settings from the menu. From the Configuration window, you can tell Animosaix where to look for photos, how you want the wallpaper to be and how often you want it to be changed, and how you want the screensaver to be and after how much time you want it to kick in.

Say you have some vacation photos and an image of Daniel Craig as James Bond. With Animosaix you can turn all these pics into a nice mosaic – the vacation photos will make up a mosaic that presents Daniel Craig. The application will take any photos you specify and use them to come up with a wallpaper. You can set the style and size of the mosaic, and you can pick how often the mosaic desktop wallpaper image will be changed (the default value is 15 minutes).

15 minutes is also the default setting for how long your computer has to be idle for the Animosaix screensaver to kick in. The screensaver also presents a mosaic made up of your images. The nice thing about it is that it uses transition effects to zoom in on the images that are part of the mosaic. It may be unpleasant though that you may wait a while for the application to load your photos and do the calculations needed to create the mosaics.

Animosaix is freeware.

Get the Animosaix application if you like mosaics and if you want to use mosaics as your desktop wallpaper and/or screensaver.

Pros

Takes little time to install Animosaix on your Windows PC. The application takes the images you specify, turns them into a mosaic, then uses the mosaic as your desktop wallpaper and/or screensaver. You can change how often the desktop wallpaper is changed. Animosaix is free.

Cons

Asks to install the Babylon toolbar, change your homepage, and change your default search.
